Legendary music executive and pioneer behind the Capitol Media Music and Hi-Q legacy honored at the 12th Annual Mark Awards

LOS ANGELES, CA

The Production Music Association (PMA) will induct legendary Danish-American music executive, composer, producer and publisher Ole Georg into the Production Music Hall of Fame at the 12th Annual Mark Awards on October 6, 2026, in Los Angeles.

The honor recognizes a career spanning more than seven decades and a body of work that helped transform production music from an often-overlooked background resource into an essential creative tool for film, television, advertising and broadcast.

Known throughout the industry as the “Father of North American Production Music,” Ole Georg became a defining figure in the evolution of Capitol Records' production music operations, developing the influential Capitol Media Music series and helping establish a catalog whose recordings would go on to become part of the sonic fabric of Hollywood, television, theme parks and popular culture.

FROM DANISH RADIO TO HOLLYWOOD

Born May 11, 1932, in Slagelse, Denmark, Ole Georg began his career in music and broadcasting before bringing his experience to the United States. In Denmark, he was director of the Danish National Youth Symphony Orchestra and was program director and one of the hosts behind Radio Mercur, the pioneering offshore commercial radio station that helped usher a new era of broadcasting in Denmark.

In 1964, Ole Georg joined Capitol Custom Services in Hollywood, where his work expanded into custom recording, background music and production music. He became a central figure in Capitol's production music operation and developed the Media Music concept, building a catalog of highly distinctive recordings designed to work with picture, television and other media. The recordings became a hidden soundtrack to American popular culture.

THE SOUNDTRACK YOU MAY NOT KNOW YOU KNOW

Ole Georg's musical legacy can be heard across generations of film and television. OGM recordings have appeared in films including Night of the Living Dead, Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction, as well as television programs and animation ranging from The Ren & Stimpy Show and The Simpsons to other landmark productions.

The catalog's influence extends far beyond Hollywood. For generations of visitors to Disneyland, Capitol Media Music became part of the sound of Tomorrowland, including music used on the Disneyland PeopleMover ride.

And in Latin America, Media Music/Ole Georg recordings became part of the musical fabric of El Chavo del Ocho and other Chespirito programming, reaching generations of viewers across Latin America. The catalog also became deeply embedded in Mexican cult cinema, including the films of director Rubén Galindo Jr., whose horror and thriller classics such as Cemetery of Terror (Cementerio del Terror), Don't Panic (Dimensiones Ocultas), Grave Robbers (Ladrones de Tumbas) and Vacaciones de Terror have developed devoted audiences among genre-film fans and collectors.

From Hollywood horror to Mexican genre cinema, the recordings traveled far beyond the American production-music industry, becoming part of the musical DNA of films and television watched by audiences around the world.

FROM HOLLYWOOD HORROR TO LATIN CULT CINEMA TO HIP-HOP

Ole Georg's catalog also occupies a remarkable place in cult-film history and sampling culture. George A. Romero's Night of the Living Dead famously drew extensively from production music of the era, including recordings from the Capitol/Ole Georg catalog, helping give the landmark horror film its unsettling and now-iconic sonic character.

Decades later, the same vintage recordings became prized by DJs, producers and crate diggers.

The result is a rare musical legacy that connects Hollywood cinema, broadcast television, theme parks, Latin American pop culture, vinyl collecting and hip-hop sampling across generations.

PRESERVING THE ARCHIVE, ACTIVATING THE LEGACY

Today, Ole Georg Music is continuing that work.

OGM is restoring, digitizing and reintroducing recordings from the historic archive to a new generation of filmmakers, music supervisors, artists, producers, collectors and listeners.

The catalog's connection to the Capitol Media Music and Hi-Q legacy remains central to that mission. OGM's current work includes archival restoration, digital releases, vinyl reissues, sync licensing and sample clearance, bringing recordings created decades ago back into active cultural circulation.

The restoration and reactivation effort is being led by OGM's current team, including Anthony Miller, Creative Director & Legacy Strategy, and Mia Crowe, Head of Catalog Operations & Partnerships. The Hall of Fame induction arrives at a particularly meaningful moment: the archive Ole Georg spent decades building and protecting is once again being discovered by a new generation.

“Ole Georg's music has never really disappeared,” says the OGM team. “It has been hiding in plain sight — in films, television, theme parks, records and samples. The goal now is to make that history visible, searchable and accessible while preserving the sound exactly as it was created.”

A LIFE IN MUSIC

From Danish broadcasting and Capitol Records to Hollywood cinema, Disneyland, Latin American television and hip-hop sampling, Ole Georg's career represents an extraordinary thread through modern media history.

The Production Music Association's Hall of Fame induction recognizes not simply longevity, but a legacy that continues to influence how music is created, licensed, discovered and heard.

At 94, Ole Georg's archive is still playing.

And a new generation is listening.
